Carleton Etherington, Conductor

 

Carleton Etherington B.Mus, FRCO, ARAM, LRAM, Dip.RAM

Carleton Etherington was appointed Conductor of the Society in 2005. He is Organist and Director of Music at Tewkesbury Abbey and combines that post with teaching and performing. He also directs Pershore Choral and the summer festival of sacred music at Tewkesbury Musica Deo Sacra. Carleton was educated at Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music and held posts at St Bride’s Fleet Street and Leeds Parish Church before his present appointment in 1996. In 2016 he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Guild of Church Musicians. During his career Carleton has won the Paisley International Organ Competition and the Royal College of Organists' 'Performer of the Year'. He has performed throughout Europe, Australia and the USA, broadcasts regularly on Radio 3’s Choral Evensong and has won considerable acclaim for his CD recordings. Carleton is married to Katie (soprano) and they have two children.

Jenny Rees LWCMD, LGSM, Dip.Mus. (Open), BA (Hons)

Jenny Rees is a freelance professional musician and teacher and was appointed Accompanist of the Society in 2005. At 16 she won the composition section of the Staple Hill Eisteddfod and in 1987 completed a Sinfonietta for Wind Band whilst at the Welsh College of Music and Drama.  After teaching and working for an Open University degree she returned to composing, piano and clarinet.  Her compositions have been published by Queen's Temple publications and her 'Praise the Lord' was premiered by Cirencester Choral Society in December 2006. Jenny recently began a new career in nursing which she plans to combine with her professional musical activities. She is married to John (bass) and they have four children - all musicians.
